The Department of Fundamental Disciplines

The Department trains specialists in engineering and technics international students as well as Ukrainian students. The Department provides the following courses for international students studying at the preliminary division: Russian as a foreign language, mathematics, physics, information technology, chemistry, area studies, and drawing. At the first and second-year of training international students are provided with the following courses: Russian as a foreign language, history of Ukraine, mathematical analysis, fundamentals of linear algebra and analytical geometry, physics, fundamental of computer literacy, programming, engineer and computer graphics. In order to attract the student youth to scientific work, the Department regularly organizes international scientific conferences where international students deliver their reports.

The majority of lecturers, working at the Department speaks technical English. Therefore, the multilingual audience of students makes lecturers of the Department work out special methods of teaching courses, taking into account their country and language peculiarities. It is essential that all the directions of the academic work are equipped with the corresponding literature: textbooks, teaching aids, methodical recommendations and instructions for practical classes and unsupervised work. Traditionally, the Department maintains good relations with international attendees. Students promote various forms of extracurricular activities, as well as different events on socio-psychological adaptation of attendees.

The main directions of the Department scientific activity are:

  • development of current issues of theory and practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language;
  • development of teaching and methodical aids for students studying in English.

The Department is aimed at updating organization of the character building process, giving lectures and conducting practical classes using multimedia technologies, as well as developing a creative individuality of a student.
