In this work the abilities of continuous wavelet transform to determine the frequency characteristics of non-stationary signals. Wavelet transform of the signal is considered in terms of filtration. The distortions introduced by wavelet transformation in the analysis in the study of short signals are investigated. The method to reduce the side effects when performing wavelet transform of signals is proposed. The choice of types of wavelets to analyze technical signals is grounded. A method for spectral analysis of non-stationary signals using continuous wavelet transform is proposed. The efficiency of research methods is analyzed by solving practical problems of rolling bearings vibration diagnostics.
