The article analyzes the peculiarities of applying the case method in the study of professionally oriented disciplines by cadets of a higher military educational institution. The author determines that the main purpose of the case method in the educational process of the higher military educational establishment is to form the cadets' ability to solve complex unstructured problems. Case method in comparison with traditional teaching methods has a number of advantages: implementation of the principles of problem training, the formation of skills in solving real situations, the formation of teamwork skills, the acquisition of presentation skills, the formation of the ability to formulate questions and find arguments in response.
