The article presents an analysis of Albrecht Dürer's engraving «Knight, Death and the Devil» from the point of view of military history and weapons science, carried out with the purpose of revealing the main character of engraving belonging to a certain cavalry formation of the late XV-early XVI century. The articles of armament and equipment, imprinted on the engraving, as well as their real constructive analogues are considered. The author's assumption that the character of the engraving is not a knight is justified, but refers to the so-called «spearmen» – a version of the heavily armed cavalry of the New Time, used for both frontal and flank strokes.
