Description: The article outlines the basic requirements for high-precision automatic navigation of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles. The main shortcomings of the use of satellite information for automatic navigation of aircraft are substantiated. The basic characteristics of information support systems for navigation of aircraft by landmarks based on specialized geographic information systems are presented. A method of correlation image processing is proposed, which is resistant to brightness fluctuations and allows to simplify the process of formation of reference images of the terrain. It is substantiated that in this technique, photographs of the earth's surface and digital terrain maps can serve as sources of initial information. The main results of practical application of the proposed technique and the navigation system of aircraft on landmarks are given.
