Description: The commander and his staff, in carrying out the procedures for organizing and preparing the battle, operate in conditions of information uncertainty. At the same time, they should be able to predict the development of situations in order to make in-formed decisions. In order to get an initiative in the course of a defensive battle, it is necessary to force the enemy to act in dis-advantaged directions for him, to anticipate counteraction to the rounds and strikes of the enemy to the flank. For this purpose, the commander of the unit in his decision on defense, in defining the military order, should provide and designate firing am-bushes. The main purpose of the firing ambush action is to inflict the enemy the maximum damage by sudden fire. In planning the actions of the firing ambushes, it is necessary to assess the fire capabilities of the units that are assigned to act on the firing plan. The assessment procedure should be based on an analysis of the anti-tank means of fire capabilities that exists in the division, as well as on-forecasting of the probable amount of enemy's destroyed armored targets, taking into account the optimal distribution of anti-tank assets. The method of determination of the optimal distribution of anti-tank means for the destruction of enemy's armored targets during the planning of firing ambushes in a defensive battle is developed. This technique contains two methods for determining the optimal distribution, depending on the initial conditions, that is, when known and unknown the probable amount of armored targets that need to be destroyed. These methods can be used separately from each other or together. The first first method is based on the solution of the linear programming problem (simplex method is an artificial basis method). An-other method is based on the improvement of the methodology for determining the probable amount of destroyed armored targets by using options for distributing antitank equipment and checking these options. In the process of determining the optimal distri-bution, the magnitude of damage that could be inflicted by the specific enemy's armored target was taken into account. The pre-sented method allows to overcome the fire capabilities of the unit to destroy the enemy's armored targets during the time of analysis and assessment of the situation by the commander and headquarters of the unit with the aim of predicting its development.
