Decrease in reliability of recognition of air targets (AT) on their radar high range resolution profiles at side aspects does actual research of possibilities of using the 2-D radar target images which can be gained at broad-band probing by a method of inverse synthesis of the antenna aperture. In paper results of mathematical simulation of restoration the 2-D radar target images in the conditions of rectilinear AT flight are presented to the centimeter radar with the linearly-frequency-modulated signal with bandwidth about 150 MHz. Comparative results of recognition of airplanes on set radar high range resolution profiles and on the 2-D radar target images are given for the side target aspects of 75...90 degrees. Solutions on fittings air target to one of six types are accepted on correlation and structural algorithms. Results indicate a possible scoring in reliability of automatic recognition at the expense of use the 2-D radar target images.
